Located in the historical building where Dr. José Ley Domínguez once lived.

The cultural center’s courtyard features a mural showing Mocorito through the centuries. You can see the town’s history since its founding as a Jesuit mission in 1593.

 

Plazuela de los Tres Grandes

This small square pays tribute to Mocorito’s famous offspring.

Three famous figures born in Mocorito are honored here: Agustina Ramírez (twelve of her thirteen children died while fighting in the Second French Intervention in Sinaloa), Eustaquio Buelna (19th-century historian, philologist, and educator), and Rafael Buelna Tenorio (journalist and Brigadier-General in the Mexican Revolution).

Napo Chilorio Factory

Casa de los Portales, as the mansion from Nuestra Señora de las Angustias hacienda is called, is home to this museum.

This regional history museum is set in the manor house from Nuestra Señora de las Angustias hacienda, which is called Casa de los Portales. Its collection presents paleontological remains found in the region: mammoth bones, tools, clothing, items from daily life, and documents, including the will of Francisco Peiro Gramón, this Magical Town’s founder.

On this little vehicle that looks like a train that runs through the main downtown streets, you can hear about the Magical Town of Mocorito’s history and legends.

Step into the Templo de la Purísima Concepción

Said to be one of the oldest churches in the state of Sinaloa, its 400 years of existence back the claim up. Construction on it was started in during the end of the 16th century, at the request of the Jesuits, and finished during the 17th century.

Its design follows a military monastic style. If you go inside, you can see the 14 engravings that represent the Stations of the Cross. On December 8th, it fills with devotees who come to honor the Immaculate Conception, this Magical Town’s patron saint.
